Sandi
Griffiths,
Singer (1968-1980) Lawrence Welk's Vivacious Singer With
Girl-Next-Door Beauty
Sandi Griffiths
sang on the Lawrence Welk Show from 1968 to 1980.
While still a college student at Brigham Young
University in Provo, Utah, Griffiths (then Sandi
Jensen) began singing in a trio with Heather Young
and Sally Hart (another Welk Show Alum).
After
graduating in 1966, they moved out to Hollywood. Griffiths
and Hart auditioned for Welk in 1967 while Welk
was searching for female singers to replace the
Lennon Sisters. He was instantly impressed with her talent and perfect 'Girl
Next Door' looks. In 1968,
Sandi became a regular part of the Welk television
show cast, singing first with Sally Hart and then with
Gail Farrell and Mary Lou Metzger.
Appearing weekly
on national television was only a part of Griffith's
work. Griffith's kept busy recording for albums, doing
commercials and traveling extensively for concert
performances. While working on the Welk
Show, Griffiths married her college sweetheart, Brent
Griffiths. Over the course of her tenure with the
Welk Show,
they became the proud parents of seven children.
Griffiths left the show in
1980, deciding that her parental duties outweighed
the heavy commitments of her career. Today, Sandi
continues to do concert dates with various Welk
stars and is active in the Mormon Church.
