Engagement To Andy Kaufman Broken Off Due To Wrestling Women

Kathie SullivanKathie Sullivan,was a vocalist on the Lawrence Welk Show from 1976 to 1982. Sullivan was born May 31, 1953 in Oshkosh, WS. Sullivan was discovered by Lawrence Welk after she won a Miss Champagne Music contest while attending the University of Wisconsin. With her natural brilliant, pure voice, she was hired in 1976, after graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in voice. She sang numerous solos, and often was paired with Dick Dale in various numbers.

Kathie Sullivan and Andy KaufmanSullivan was engaged to comedian Andy Kaufman in 1981. However, Sullivan broke off the engagement after Kaufman refused to give up his once-a-week busboy job and a comedy piece which involved wrestling women. Sullivan later married in 1986 and is the mother of two daughters. Now living in Dallas, TX, she still keeps busy with singing engagements, personal appearances during PBS pledge breaks, and acting as well.
